Joseph Girod and family papers, 1803-1935.

The collection consists of personal and business correspondence, financial documents, legal documents, and printed items. Many of the letters pertain to Nicolas Girod's estate. The bulk of the correspondence consists of letters to and from brothers Francis and Joseph. Letters from Joseph are primarily written from New Orleans, and from his plantation in St. Charles Parish, and letters from François are from Paris, France. The papers dated after 1870 relate primarily to Marie Dumestre and her education in Catholic schools and later her teaching career at the L'Union Française School in New Orleans. Her papers include personal correspondence and school exercises in French. The collection also contains an account book belonging to Joseph Girod.
